| IntroductionLotus Charity Association (LCA) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-religious organization registered with the Guide County Civil Affairs Bureau, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, China. The director (Caihua Dorji) has successfully managed more than 40 development projects for local communities (~2 million RMB)in Qinghai Province that benefit 9,000 people.
Mission Statement LCA’s mission is to promote sustainable rural community development by assisting locally identified needs in five main areas: • Projects for basic, human needs. • Environmental protection. • Ethnic cultural preservation • Rural community education. • Rural resident capacity building. How LCA Works LCA strives to improve rural community life by implementing projects put forward by local communities. LCA assists local communities find funding and then assists in project implementation. After project completion, LCA submits a detailed final report to the donors. Operational Area LCA’s main efforts are focused on Qinghai, especially in Guide County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and Hualong Hui Autonomous County, Haidoing Region. Why Guide and Hualong? Herding and farming are key economic activities in Guide and Hualong counties. Guide County has a population of 100,000 (Tibetans = 34%), 7 townships, and 113 administrative villages. The average elevation is 2,200 meters above sea level. Hualong County has a population of 226,400 (Tibetan = 21%; Hui = 53%), 17 townships, and 362 administrative villages. The average elevation is 2,700 meters above sea level. Most communities herd sheep, goats, yaks, and cattle. Farmers cultivate barley, wheat, potatoes, and rapeseed. Many herding and farming communities lack basic education, access to basic healthcare, and convenient supplies of water. |
